A generalization of the Mignotte's scheme over Euclidean domains and applications to secret image sharing

    Get PDF
Secret sharing scheme is an efficient method to hide secret key or secret image by partitioning it into parts such that some predetermined subsets of partitions can recover the secret but remaining subsets cannot. In 1979, the pioneer construction on this area was given by Shamir and Blakley independently. After these initial studies, Asmuth-Bloom and Mignotte have proposed a different (k,n)(k,n) threshold modular secret sharing scheme by using the Chinese remainder theorem. In this study, we explore the generalization of Mignotte's scheme to Euclidean domains for which we obtain some promising results. Next, we propose new algorithms to construct threshold secret image sharing schemes by using Mignotte's scheme over polynomial rings. Finally, we compare our proposed scheme to the existing ones and we show that this new method is more efficient and it has higher security

Acquired QT interval prolongation and ventricular arythmias associated with brucellosis: A case report and review of literature

    Get PDF
SummaryBrucellosis is a zoonosis caused by Brucella species and usually involves the lymphoreticular system. Cardiovascular involvement is rare but fatal. Endocarditis is the most common cardiovascular manifestation of brucellosis. Herein we report a case of brucellosis with a presentation of acquired QT prolongation and ventricular tachycardia without a clear clinical picture of endocarditis and myocarditis

Some properties of Cu-B4C composites manufactured by powder metallurgy

    Get PDF
In this study, some properties of cold pressed Cu-B4C composites were investigated. Commercial copper powders with 40 µm particle size were reinforced with B4C in a 40µm particle size at ratios of 0, 1, 2, 3 wt.% for improving mechanical properties of copper used for electrical conductivity. Cu-B4C composites have been fabricated by powder metallurgy method and sintered at 700C for 2h in open atmosphere and then subjected to cold pressing following sintering process.  The presence of Cu and B4C which are dominant components in the sintered composites were confirmed by X-ray diffraction analyses technique and SEM-EDS.  Scanning electron microscope (SEM-EDS) was showed that B4C particles are distributed homogenously in the copper matrix. The relative densities of Cu and Cu-B4C composites sintered at 700°C are ranged from 97.5% to 90.19%. Microhardness of composites ranged from 80.65 to 87.5 HB and the electrical conductivity of composites changed between 90.04 %IACS and 68.87 %IACS. It was observed that cold pressed Cu - 1 wt.% B4C composites revealed promising physical properties

A Study on the Effects of Dırect Factor Xa Inhibitors and Direct Thrombin Inhibitors on Human Primary Chondrocyte Cultures

    Get PDF
Aim:This study investigates the effects of two direct factor Xa inhibitors, apixaban and rivaroxaban, and a direct thrombin inhibitor, dabigatran, on human primary chondrocyte cultures.Materials and Methods:Monolayer cultured chondrocytes were prepared. Cell cultures were treated with dabigatran, apixaban, and rivaroxaban. Cultures without drug treatments served as the control group. Using an inverted light microscope, the cell surface morphology was examined. Cell viability and the toxicity of drugs were evaluated using a commercial assay kit, and the results were confirmed using two nucleic acid binding dyes, acridine orange and propidium iodide. The expressions of cartilage oligomeric protein, matrix metalloproteinase-7, and matrix metalloproteinase-19 were assessed using the real-time polymerase chain reaction analysis. All the analyses were performed within 21 days. The data obtained were statistically evaluated. Results:The administration of the three drugs changed the cell viability, proliferation, and expressions of cartilage oligomeric protein, matrix metalloproteinase-7, and matrix metalloproteinase-19. The results were statistically significant (P<0.05).Conclusion:Results obtained from in vitro studies may not provide accurate and reliable insight for clinical practices. However, clinicians should know that drugs used for the prevention or treatment of diseases may suppress chondrocyte proliferation and damage the extracellular matrix formation

A novel modified PAIR technique using a trocar catheter for percutaneous treatment of liver hydatid cysts: a six-year experience

    Get PDF
PURPOSEWe aimed to demonstrate the success and reliability of a novel puncture, aspiration, injection, and reaspiration (PAIR) technique in liver hydatid cysts.METHODSPercutaneous treatment with ultrasonographic guidance was performed in 493 hepatic hydatid cysts in 374 patients. Patients were treated with a new PAIR technique by single puncture method using a 6F trocar catheter. The results of this novel technique were evaluated with regards to efficacy and safety of the procedure and complication rates.RESULTSOut of 493 cysts, 317 were Gharbi type I (WHO CE 1) and 176 were Gharbi type II (WHO CE 3A). Of all cysts, 13 were referred to surgery because of cystobiliary fistulization. Recurrence was observed in 11 cysts one month later. Therefore, the success rate of the PAIR technique was 97.7% (469/480). Minor complications (fever, urticaria-like reactions, biliary fistula) were seen in 44 treated patients (12%, 44/374); the only major complication was reversible anaphylactic shock which was observed in two patients (0.5%, 2/374).CONCLUSIONThis novel modified PAIR technique may be superior to catheterization by Seldinger technique due to its efficiency, easier application, lower severe complication rate, and lower cost. Further comparative studies are required to confirm our observations

Electrospinning as a route to advanced carbon fibre materials for selected low-temperature electrochemical devices: a review

    Get PDF
Electrospinning has been proven as a highly versatile fabrication method for producing nano-structured fibres with controllable morphology, of both the fibres themselves and the void structure of the mats. Additionally, it is possible to use heteroatom doped polymers or to include catalytic precursors in the electrospinning solution to control the surface properties of the fibres. These factors make it an ideal method for the production of electrodes and flow media for a variety of electrochemical devices, enabling reduction in mass transport and activation overpotentials and therefore increasing efficiency. Moreover, the use of biomass as a polymer source has recently gained attention for the ability to embed sustainable principles in the materials of electrochemical devices, complementing their ability to allow an increase in the use of renewable electricity via their application. In this review, the historical and recent developments of electrospun materials for application in redox flow batteries, fuel cells, metal air batteries and supercapacitors are thoroughly reviewed, including an overview of the electrospinning process and a guide to best practice. Finally, we provide an outlook for the emerging use of this process in the field of electrochemical energy devices with the hope that the combination of tailored microstructure, surface functionality and computer modelling will herald a new era of bespoke functional materials that can significantly improve the performance of the devices in which they are used
